GHAZIABAD: Carjackers
robbed a woman and her brother of their belongings in Ghaziabad while
they were heading towards Sonepat from Moradnagar. However, the four
robbers were 'considerate' enough to give the woman Rs 100 and
suggestions on how she could make her way back home.
Police said the victim, Poonam Tyagi (35), and her brother Monu (20) were travelling in their Mahindra Scorpio car when a Maruti Wagon R swerved in front of them at 8pm on Monday night. Four armed men came out and dragged Monu out of the car and took his wallet. They then drove off with Poonam still seated in the back seat and asked for her ornaments and cash.
Poonam was driven was for 8km before the robbers dropped her off, said the police.
"After dropping Poonam, they apologized to her and gave her a Rs 100 note so that she could get home. They even told her that a bus would be passing by the road soon and she could board that," said DSP Ranvijay Singh. Poonam was dropped at a bridge that cuts across the Hindon River near Surana village.
The robbers discarded their car and sped away in the Scorpio. Police recovered the Wagon R and identified it as a car stolen from Loni in Ghaziabad on January 2. "The robbers also took out Rs 10,000 from Monu's ATM as he had written down his PIN on a piece of paper inside his wallet," added Singh.
Cops said prima facie the robbery was committed by a gang notorious in the Badaut region. "We have identified one of the accused and will soon nab the four," assured Singh.
