For the lovebirds, their itinerary for Valentine's Day is set. From wooing their partner with the fanciest gift to taking them out on a dinner date, they're going to do everything under the sun and anything that connected to the modern ways of expressing love. But for many in Chhattisgarh, this V-Day is going to be extra special as it will mark the onset of their married life. According to the city's many pandits and astrologers, February 14 is the last auspicious date to get married this month. So Raipur, Durg and Bhilai are soaking in the love with almost 2000 marriages set to take place this Thursday. "According to our data, there are as many as 2000 weddings happening in Raipur, Durg and Bhilai this Thursday. There are many weddings today also, but people are crazy over February 14, which is Valentine's Day," says Rinku Hora, a tent-house owner in Raipur.
Last auspicious date to get married this month
The shubh vivah yog associated with the date, which is celebrated worldwide as the day of love, has caught the fancy of many would-be brides and grooms of Raipur. "This is the last auspicious day to get married this month. After this, there is no shubh muhurat for marriages, thereby marking an end to the marriage season," informs astrologer Anant Tiwari, adding, "I know of more than 150 couples who are getting married this Valentine's Day. Yeh toh sirf main jaanta hun, there are a lot more marriages taking place tomorrow." Devendra Pandey, another astrologer in the city, says, "February 14 is the best day to get married in the winter season. Otherwise, the next shubh muhurat will only start in April end."
Lucky to tie the knot on V-Day
Couples can't believe their luck and are more than eager to celebrate their V-Day in the best possible way - by getting married! Like Rekha Rai, who will be getting married to Anant Sharma on V-Day, says, "We had the option of getting married on February 10, 13 and 14, and for obvious reasons, I chose Feb 14. What more could I have asked for to make my V-Day special than taking wedding vows that day? Now, the whole world will celebrate our marriage anniversary every year (laughs)."
Ashish Shrivastava, a marketing professional, who is set to tie the knot tomorrow, says, "I am extremely happy to get married on V-Day. Now everyone will remember my wedding date."
Shweta Srivastava, a doctor and Ashish's fiance, says, "I don't think there can be any better occasion to get married than on February 14. Valentine's Day is the epitome of love. I am lucky to tie the knot on this day."
