Rejected in job interview, man molests sweeper

MUMBAI: A Saki Naka resident, Ranjit Singh (28), was arrested for allegedly molesting a woman sweeper (35) in the lift of a business process outsourcing (BPO) office building.
On February 17, Singh, a college dropout, spotted the victim, a mother of two, at the BPO, where he had gone for a job interview. He did not get the job, but over the next two days, Singh kept a watch on the victim and followed her from her house to the BPO.
The victim, in her complaint, said, "On the morning of February 19, I saw the man follow me to the BPO. He entered the lift with me on the pretext of going for an interview and molested me. However, before he could be caught, he slipped from the building. I learnt through the office staff that he had come to the BPO two days back for an interview and had failed."
"After misbehaving with the victim, Singh rushed out of the lift and left the building," said Saki Naka police inspector Shivaji Gavare. The police managed to track down Singh with the help of CCTV footage from the BPO firm. "After the victim identified Singh, we got in touch with the guards employed at the BPO. One of the guards identified Singh and helped us find his address in Sakinaka," said Gavare.
According to the police, Singh was angry on seeing the victim employed at the BPO as a sweeper while he had failed in the interview. Singh was arrested on February 21 and booked under Section 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman). He has been released on bail.
The police arrested a college dropout for allegedly misbehaving with a sweeper in a lift at a business processing outsource building February 19. Sakinaka resident Ranjit Singh (28) committed the offence two days later after he saw the 35-year-old woman, mother of two, in the BPO firm when he came out after failing the job interview.
Singh committed the offence in anger on seeing the victim employed in the BPO firm as sweeper and on the other hand he failed in the interview, said the Sakinaka police.
The incident occurred in the morning when the victim entered the lift to go to upper floor. Singh too entered the lift on pretext of going for a job interview. "Singh repeatedly misbehaved with the victim and before rushing out of the lift, he reportedly kissed her," said Sakinaka police inspector Shivaji Gavare.
For two days Singh kept watch on the victim and followed her from her locality till she enters the BPO firm. Police managed to track down the accused with the help of the closed circuit television (CCTV) footage fitted in premise of the BPO firm. "After the victim identified Singh's photo we got in touch with the security guards employed at the BPO firm. One of the guards identified Singh and helped us to find his address in Sakinaka," said Gavare.
In the complaint, the victim said, "On February 19, I saw the accused followed me to the locality where I stay. For two days he followed me before misbehaving and kissing me in the lift. Before he can get caught he managed to give a slip from the office building. I learnt through other office staff that he has come for an interview but failed in it."
Police booked Singh under section 354 (outrage modesty of a woman). He was produced before the local court and was released on bail.
