Ways you can set up your kitchen

Below is a basic checklist to take shopping with you to help you get started

Moving out on your own in a new city? Do you have to help your son or daughter set up a home? Well here's a list that should make things easy.

Cutlery
Whether you are moving out alone or moving in with a partner, number 4 is good. Get for your kitchen a dish set and silver ware for four, and four glasses. It will be a good idea for you to get microwave safe cutlery. At times when you just want to heat food only for yourself you can pile all you want on your plate and heat it directly. Do pick up plastic bowls with lids, in which you can pack your leftovers and refrigerate.

Pots and pans
Get two non-stick frying pans - one shallow and one deep. You can fry eggs, saute vegetables, even make noodles in the deep pan. Get one pot to boil milk, a good steel one. To store your spices, flour, salt, sugar etc you'll need to pick up plastic storage bottles and cans with lids.

For a microwave or oven
Well, not many bring in a microwave or an oven when they are first setting up a home, but if you are, get yourself two baking pans - a 9" x 13" and an 8" x 8". You could also bake lasagna as well as cakes in them. Later, you could also go about town and pick up other baking equipment for cupcakes, cheesecakes etc.

Other utensils
These are the things that'll make your life in the kitchen simpler. So don't forget to add to your list a spatula, wooden spoons and ladles (you shouldn't be using steel ones on your non-stick pans), pancake turner (comes handy to flip a lot of other things like omelet, fried fish, cutlets etc.), a paring knife, a vegetable peeler, colander, sieve whisker, pizza cutter, pot holders, cheese grater, chopper (they are really helpful in cutting meats and harder vegetables) and two regular knifes.

Electronic items
Add to your list a blender, electric mixer and toaster.

Not to forget...
Pick up some dish towels and dish cloths along with a trash can, trash bags and cleaning supplies that includes paper towels, rags, spray bottle, dish washing soap, wiping cloth and dish scrubs. It'll be a good idea to pick up a plastic wrap and tin foil along with these supplies from a wholesaler.
